Genghis Khan, born as Temujin (1162 - - August 18, 1227), was a Mongol ruler (can, chan or khan) and conqueror. 
Genghis Khan united the Mongol tribes and founded the largest empire in world history in terms of land area. It stretched from China to the river Danube. During the campaigns under his reign massive massacres of the population of conquered cities took place, especially in Central Asia. His name means literally “supreme leader”.
