This is the first edition of J.M. Barrie’s classic tale of the “boy who wouldn’t grow up”, published in October 1911 – the true first issue, with no publishing date to the reverse of the title page. The character of Peter Pan first appeared in print in 1902, in ‘The Little White Bird’, but it was only with the publication of ‘Peter and Wendy’ that Peter Pan was truly immortalized in book form, alongside Tinker Bell, Captain Hook and the Lost Boys.

Condition: Contents very clean. Usual foxing to text pages, one light corner crease, two short closed tears, one tiny chip, very slight bumping to some corners and edges. Plates as shown in scans (including two previously loose, now re-glued, with wear to fore-edges). Endpapers with usual offsetting, a few minor splits to hinges; small erasure to reverse of front free endpaper, bookseller’s label plus date stamp (Oct 1911) to rear endpapers. Edges of page block with foxing, a little scratching. Boards and spine as shown.

First edition, first printing of the famous Peter Pan story, with beautiful full-page illustrations by F.D. Bedford.
