Recently prepared skeleton of a sleeping rat in a glass display case. The skeleton is a so-called tape preparation which means that the connections (links) between the bones as well as intact. This method of skeleton preparation is used with smaller skeletons. In this size the parts are taken apart and each part is cleaned separately. Beetles are used to eat the organic material of a dead animal, leaving only bones. After this, the bones are degreased and bleached. After that the separate parts are put back together.
