Chiselled out cabinet

This cabinet features a hand-carved wooden pattern, created by removing the top layer of wood to reveal the distinctive texture beneath. You can feel the 2 mm deep texture. Every detail is crafted entirely by hand, creating a unique piece. The contrasting handle is a found object from an old chemistry lab, chosen for its unique colour and character. The shelf can be adjusted using the adjustable brass pins to make it lower or higher.

The idea came about when I wanted to give old wood a new life. By painting it and carving the texture, I created my own wood. I put a lot of time into creating this pattern giving it new meaning.
