A phurba is a magical ritual dagger consisting of three segments and originally used by shamans in Nepal and Tibet to ward off negative energy. The story goes that phurbas were traditionally carved by the shaman himself, after a long period of meditation.
The three segments together form the power of the phurba to transform negative energy into positive energy. The three segments represent the three negative energies; desire, ignorance and hatred. But also control of time (past, present and future). Phurbas have a powerful effect and are often used today in healings, meditations and transformation processes.
A phurba is often depicted with Mahakala, the protector of Dharma and are made of wood.
