About the Artist

Arthur Szyk (1894–1951) was a Polish-Jewish master illustrator renowned for his richly detailed, illuminated-manuscript style. Unlike most illustrators of his time, Szyk rejected modernism and instead embraced the precision, symbolism and ornamentation of classical manuscript art.
