DESCRIPTION :
The museum director and art historian Dr. Friedhelm Häring describes the pictorial universe of Ralf Altrieth as follows :
"There is a lot of poetry in this painting, as in all the works of this artist. They are populated by narrative codes and fantastical tales. In that sense, the painterly poems of Ralf Altrieth are a pure childish song... But the most astonishing thing manifested in these canvases is a communicative tenderness for the emotional states of the human being."
In his paintings, Ralf Altrieth lets the forms rise and transform with the gesture, in a free and spontaneous movement. The figures often appear fleetingly, as if they hesitate between being and disappearing.
The image forms through superpositions, the elements seem to float, respond to each other, intertwine, creating a living and open visual space.
The title is generally added afterwards. It aims to suggest a clue, a narrative dimension, poetic or sometimes simply humorous, never confining the image to a single interpretation.
An expressive work that immediately captures the eye and gradually reveals its full richness.
