"Kauernder Akt" - 1917 ("Crouching Nude")
After Egon Schiele. Provenance: small edition printed in Vienna by the State Print Office of Austria (Staatsdruckerei Österreich) on high quality paper in 1951.
Signed and dated in the plate with "Egon Schiele 1917".
This rare print, which demonstrate Schiele's distinctive style, is very well preserved after all these years.
It hasn't ever been framed; it has been stored throughout the 70+ years since it was printed.

Very hard to find as the majority are now in institutions or on private collections.

The printing process is of the highest quality and is almost comparable to the original. Today there are only 3 printers in the whole world that use this. The color image is split - from light to dark - into up to 25 colors and then printed on top of each other in as many print cycles. This technique was mainly used in small editions.
Egon Schiele (12 juni 1890 – 31 oktober 1918) was een Oostenrijkse schilder. Schiele was een protegé van Gustav Klimt en een belangrijke figuratieve schilder van het begin van de 20e eeuw. Zijn werk staat bekend om zijn intensiteit en rauwe seksualiteit en om de vele zelfportretten die de kunstenaar maakte. De verdraaide lichaamshoorten en expressieve lijn die Schieles werken kenmerken, markeren de kunstenaar als een vroege voorloper van het expressionisme.
