Goya had the intention to dedicate a series of prints to bullfighting. He created this collection slowly, with no specific schedule, probably due to the disruption caused by the war. According to several authors, Goya’s initial intention was to illustrate some passages of the “Carta histórica sobre el origen y proceso de las corridas de toros en España” (1777), written by Nicolás Fernández de Moratín. However, the artist went beyond his original idea and completed the series with events and personal memories -specially some famous moves of the time- related to bullfighting and external to Moratín’s work.
Goya was with Pablo Picasso, Antoni Tapies or Salvador Dali one of the best spanish artist of the world.
