Kohei Yoshiyuki
Housokusha/1992/Japanese/230*220*10

"Infrared Rays" is a collection of photographs by Japanese photographer Kohei Yoshiyuki. Born in Hiroshima Prefecture, Yoshiyuki moved to Tokyo in 1967 to become a professional photographer, worked for a foreign news agency in 1974, and began freelancing in 1978. He became the talk of the town for his voyeuristic photographs of men and women making love in parks, using infrared film and infrared strobes, and his subsequent publication of “Document Park” was highly acclaimed abroad as a unique work of art. This book is Yoshiyuki's second collection of photographs, compiled mainly from his serialization in a monthly magazine. The photographs using infrared film are divided into two parts, “Suburbia” and “Summer.” The first part, set along a private railway line from the suburbs to the city center, depicts female models in nude or bondage in a decadent mood with depressed expressions, while the second part shows men and women mingling on a beach. The first section, which is a different approach from the voyeuristic images, evokes an erotic yet artistic photographic atmosphere, reminiscent of Alarkey. Kohei Yoshiyuki, the wizard of darkness, presents his first full-fledged collection of photographs. The wriggling of naked women, bewitching landscapes and ...... a world of unique feel are presented through infrared film” (from the cover).
