Antieke Messing petroleumlamp uit circa 1850–1900, met Rowatt’s Patent Marvel-brander en frosted/geëtst glazen kap.
Beschrijving van de verkoper
Large and richly decorated antique petroleum oil lamp, dating from approximately the late 19th to early 20th century.
The lamp is fitted with a burner clearly marked:
“ROWATT'S PATENT
MARVEL
GERMAN MAKE”
The lamp is completed with an attractive frosted and etched glass shade, decorated with grapevine and leaf motifs. The glass bears a visible “St. Louis” signature.
The elaborate metal base is particularly decorative, featuring classical female heads, lion masks and ornamental detailing. The metal has developed an attractive aged brass/bronze-coloured patina.
Details:
• Antique petroleum / oil lamp
• Rowatt's Patent “Marvel” burner
• Burner marked “German Make”
• Signed St. Louis glass
• Frosted and etched grapevine decoration
• Classical female heads and lion masks
• Richly ornamented metal construction
• Black circular plinth
• Original aged patina
Dimensions:
• Total height: approx. 60 cm
• Base diameter: approx. 19 cm
Condition:
Good antique condition with visible signs of age and use.
There is patina, oxidation, discolouration and general wear consistent with the age of the lamp. The metal has deliberately not been polished in order to preserve its antique appearance.
The petroleum mechanism has not been tested and functionality is therefore not guaranteed.
Please study all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description.
The Rowatt's Patent marking relates specifically to the burner; no attribution of the complete lamp to Thomas Rowatt & Sons is being made.
