Pioneer PL-55DX Turntable

The Pioneer PL-55DX is a substantial Japanese vintage turntable from the 1970s, combining classic Pioneer styling with a sophisticated direct-drive DC servo motor, a well-engineered S-shaped tonearm and a semi-automatic operating mechanism.

Unlike belt-driven turntables, the PL-55DX drives the platter directly from the motor, eliminating the need for a belt and providing excellent speed stability. Independent electronic controls allow fine adjustment of both 33⅓ and 45 rpm, with a range of approximately ±2%. A built-in stroboscope makes it easy to monitor the platter speed accurately.

The PL-55DX features a static-balanced S-shaped tonearm with anti-skating adjustment and hydraulic cueing. Its automatic return mechanism lifts and returns the tonearm at the end of a record, while the wooden plinth incorporates suspension designed to reduce acoustic feedback. The turntable was also designed to accommodate four-channel records, including SQ, RM and CD-4 formats.

To deliver this product properly, it is carefully packed in very strong boxes, thereby wrapped in bubble wrap with lots of padding.
