In the 1970s Gijsbert Hanekroot worked as a free-lance photographer based in Amsterdam where he had a studio (Berenstraat 18). His main assigment was bi-weekly music paper Muziekkrant Oor (Ear), but he also worked for daily newspapers and magazines. He did concerts, interviews, press receptions and studio shoots. It were the golden years of rock music where the big names made their first and second albums, hard working to break through.

Hanekroot: 'Most musicians don’t like the press. They see it as a necessary duty; usually part of their deal with the record company. Not so with Frank Zappa. He especially made time for it. And a chat of more than two hours was not exceptional.'

Recently Gijsberts photos were shown in exhibitions in a.o. Paris, London, Moscow, Tokyo, Frankfurt, Hong Kong Munich. Belgrade, Brooklyn and Schiedam, Netherlands. He also published several books. (1976 The story of a rock photographer)
