Precious Bodies
Precious Bodies is een serie die is ontstaan vanuit mijn diepe fascinatie voor het menselijk lichaam, vooral in zijn ouder wordende vorm. In plaats van schoonheid te zoeken in perfectie, ben ik steeds meer geraakt door wat de tijd achterlaat – lijnen, verzakkingen, huidtextuur, al die stille sporen van geleefd leven.
In deze schilderijen probeer ik het lichaam te benaderen met zachtheid. Niet om te idealiseren of dramatiseren, maar om simpelweg te tonen wat er is – eerlijk, stil, van dichtbij. Elk lichaam vertelt een verhaal. Het voelt bijzonder als iemand mij toestaat om dat verhaal vast te leggen, juist op het meest kwetsbare moment.
De titel Precious Bodies zegt eigenlijk alles. Deze lichamen – vaak genegeerd, beoordeeld of verborgen – verdienen aandacht en zorg. Ze dragen kracht én breekbaarheid, herinneringen én waardigheid.
Voor mij is deze serie ook een persoonlijke weg. Door anderen te schilderen, leer ik gaandeweg mijn eigen ouder wordende lichaam meer te accepteren. Misschien kom ik zo iets dichter bij vrede met het verstrijken van de tijd.

Ik werk uitsluitend met hoogwaardige materialen: professioneel geprepareerd linnen of gladde panelen, en olieverf rijk aan pigment. Elk werk ontstaat met volledige aandacht – bedoeld om lang mee te gaan. In materiaal, maar hopelijk ook in betekenis.

Francien Krieg (b. 1973) is a distinguished Dutch artist renowned for her compelling explorations of the human form, particularly focusing on themes of aging and vulnerability. A graduate of the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, she initially engaged in conceptual installations, utilizing materials like meat and rubber to create thought-provoking pieces that delve into human fragility.
Transitioning to painting at The Free Academy in The Hague, Francien developed a distinctive style characterized by unconventional perspectives and a raw portrayal of the human body. Her works challenge societal norms, celebrating the beauty found in imperfection and the passage of time.
