History
1755 — The Beginning
The story begins in 1755, when Jean-Marc Vacheron, a young watchmaker from Geneva, signs his first known watch.
This document is considered the brand's birth certificate, making Vacheron Constantin the oldest watchmaking manufacture in the world with continuous operation.
1819 — François Constantin Joins
In 1819, the company was joined by François Constantin, a businessman with great international vision.
It is from this period that the brand's famous motto emerges:
“Faire mieux si possível, ce qui est toujours possível.”
Do better, if possible — and it is always possible.
19th Century — Global Expansion
During the 19th century, the brand:
exported watches throughout Europe, Russia, Turkey, and the Americas
developed complications such as calendars, minute repeaters, and moon phases
established very high standards of hand-finished details
Vacheron became renowned for its elegance, complexity, and reliability.
1880 — The Maltese Cross
The brand adopts the Maltese Cross as its symbol, inspired by a part of the mechanism of old clocks used to regulate the tension of the spring.
This icon still represents the mechanical sophistication of the house.
Today
Vacheron Constantin remains part of the Richemont Group, maintaining limited and highly handcrafted production.
