Early 20th Century Men's Trousseau (c. 1928)
Extensive trousseau comprising men’s and girls’ clothing and household linen, including: multiple shirts (batiste, lace, percale, and cotton), trousers (embroidered percale and velour), nightgowns, and two dozen Valenciennes batiste lace handkerchiefs.
Girls’ garments include numerous Scottish twill stockings, silk stockings, and petticoats.
Household linens feature embroidered and plain sheets, pillowcases, two dozen terry towels, and two dozen dish towels.
Also includes porcelain dinner services, tea service, cutlery, and aprons.
Reflective of evolving marital customs of the late 1920s, when trousseaux began to be shared between couples.

This is an exquisite piece of antique Richelieu bed linen, crafted in pure linen with intricate hand-embroidered openwork. This luxurious item originates from a dowry collection and forms part of the so-called “Prince’s basket,” a set of the finest linens reserved for distinguished households.
The Richelieu technique features hand satin-stitched motifs with carefully cut-away fabric, creating delicate lace-like patterns—a labor-intensive art requiring exceptional skill. This piece has been sparingly used, preserving its fine quality and rich embroidery.
