The Scapa Distillery is located near Kirkwall, in the Orkney Archipelago in Scotland. Founded in 1885 by Macfarlane & Townsend, it was acquired and rebuilt in the 1950s by Hiram Walker & Sons Ltd (now a subsidiary of Pernod Ricard). Its production was suspended in 1994, then it closed its doors definitively in 2004. During this period, the Scapa 12 year old was the most widespread version. Eventually it was decided to rebuild and restore the distillery, and in November 2004 the first new whiskey in ten years was released. Due to the delay caused by this closure, production of the 12 year old was stopped in favor of a 14 year old. These two versions are no longer produced and have become very rare and sought after.
