Antique Silver-Mounted Blackthorn Cane, London, 1903
An elegant Edwardian blackthorn cane fashioned from a naturally grown shaft, retaining its beautifully textured bark, pronounced knots and distinctive organic character. The warm honey-brown wood has developed a rich patina over time, while the plain domed sterling silver pommel provides a refined contrast to the rustic appearance of the shaft.
The sterling silver mount is fully hallmarked for London, 1903, and engraved "S.E.T.". Carefully selected for its naturally sculptural form, the blackthorn shaft displays the characteristic raised nodes left by removed thorns, a distinctive feature of traditional blackthorn canes. Such examples were popular during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods, valued for both their durability and striking natural appearance.
Presented in good antique condition, the silver mount shows light surface scratches and wear consistent with age and use. The blackthorn shaft displays a fine aged patina with minor natural imperfections commensurate with over a century of age. The ferrule is no longer present.
A handsome and well-proportioned Edwardian blackthorn cane combining natural beauty with understated elegance, making it an attractive addition to any collection of antique canes or country house antiques.
