Dutch Art Deco Oak Tripod Side Table by N.E.M.I. Steenwijk, 1920s A charming Dutch Art Deco tripod side table made by N.E.M.I. in Steenwijk, dating from the 1920s and executed in solid oak. The design has particularly attractive proportions. A circular top is carried by supports that gently curve and broaden towards the base, giving the table a light yet sculptural silhouette. A smaller circular lower tier echoes the tabletop and visually ties the three-legged construction together. The restrained geometry combined with the softly shaped supports is characteristic of the Dutch Art Deco and the Amsterdam School, where even relatively modest pieces of furniture were often given a sculptural identity. Compact but surprisingly present, it works beautifully as a side table, plant stand, lamp table or accent piece, particularly in an eclectic interior. N.E.M.I. was a furniture manufacturer based in Steenwijk in the Netherlands, active during the Art Deco era and associated with Dutch Art Deco and Amsterdam School furniture. Other surviving pieces are documented with the same NEMI STWK factory stamp. This example is clearly stamped NEMI STWK and numbered 730 underneath. The table is very stable and sturdy, with age-related wear and surface marks consistent with use.
