Descrição fornecida pelo vendedor

Pair of carved, lacquered and giltwood wall sconces. Italy, 19th century.

40 x 33 x 24 cm each.

A pair of single-light wall sconces in carved, pierced and mecca-gilt wood with a lacquered ground. Each backplate is formed as a shaped shield-cartouche, framed by a gilt moulded border and lacquered within, set in an exuberant openwork surround of C-scrolls and curling acanthus leaves. The cresting is a crown with florets and pearls above a gadrooned, pierced globular element rising from an acanthus cluster that drapes over the cartouche. From the lower part of the shield springs a mixtilinear scrolled arm sheathed in acanthus, supporting a shaped drip pan and nozzle. Fully Rococo in taste, the pair combines lively, sculptural carving with the refined contrast of gold and lacquer, a type widely found in Italian patrician residences of the eighteenth century. Electrified.

Condition report: Signs of wear, small losses and gilding losses consistent with age. One cartouche shows extensive craquelure to the lacquer, revealing the red ground beneath. The arm of one sconce is damaged and no longer sits in its correct alignment, appearing slightly out of true. Electrical wiring to be checked.

This item is sold with a certificate of authenticity with legal validity.
- Further informations on the condition report are available upon request.
- All shipments are handled with professional packaging. The frame, if present, is to be understood as a gift and therefore its structural integrity during transport is not guaranteed.

Note for non-Italian buyers: This work has not yet obtained the certificate of free export from Italy, issued by the Superintendency of Cultural Heritage, which certifies that the work does not belong to the Italian cultural heritage and may therefore be freely exported. The regulations in force from 2026 provide for reduced processing times for works with a declared value below €50,000, at the discretion of the expert committee: typically 2-3 weeks from the submission of the request.
