As the Showa era gave way to the Heisei era and the third-rate gekiga movement drew to a close, signs of a publishing recession became clear. Gekiga that were too heavy were not suitable for film or digital adaptation, and were no longer well-received by readers. I think it was a symbolic event that erotic manga began to include DVD bonuses. Around 2000, Tsutsumi began to use the term "manga," Chiyoji "gekiga," and Ai Kahoru "ojousama."
