If an item exceeds the specified size or weight, it may be shipped in multiple packages. ----- Signed Sakurai Akihiro (1951-) He was born on June 2, 1951, in Naruko Onsen, Miyagi Prefecture, as the eldest son of kokeshi craftsman Shoji Sakurai. His first experience with kokeshi painting came during the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, when he helped decorate dolls made for visiting athletes. After graduating from high school, he trained in woodturning under his father and began painting kokeshi in earnest in the early 1970s. Around 1982, he took over the Sakurai Kokeshi Shop located on Naruko’s Kokeshi Street and has continued its operation.
