The intention of this degustation box is to let you enjoy, as a whisky lover, the growth and development of the “Gouden Carolus Single Malt.” Since 2003 we worked in our own Het Anker brewery. Now, after life absorbing its “probation years” we have gathered knowledge and experience into a fully-fledged, contemporary Belgian whisky. History The brewery has been in the hands of the Van Breedam family since 1873. In fact Louis Van Breedam had no brewery experience as he came from a “meulders dynasty” that since the 17th century had a jenever distillery in Blaasveld. Full circle… That family history made Charles Leclef, the fifth generation at the helm of the brewery dream. How would the perfect marriage between two traditions, distillery and brewery, taste? As it turned out it was a fine single malt whisky with the spirit of Gouden Carolus Tripel! This fine whisky was distilled on the basis of the mash of the beer Gouden Carolus Tripel. This unique combination ensured a very balanced and pure tasting whisky, with a blend of several fruits. Our Gouden Carolus Single Malt is still maturing in its oak barrels. Tasting Notes New spirit (5cl) “the birth” Color: colourless Nose: fruit, medicinal alcohol, sweet, slight marzipan and almond aromas Taste: soft, bitter, then sweet, fruity Finish: short 1 year (20cl) our “tiny tot” Color: light yellow Nose: sweet, fruity, banana already predominantly present Taste: first slightly bitter, then sweet Finish: medium with hints of bittersweet (pure) chocolate 3 year (35cl) “Gouden Carolus Single Malt” Color: golden yellow Nose: soft, clearly banana, Camomile Taste: soft, elegant and fruity Finish: medium, bittersweet (pure) chocolate Style: A young, fresh appetizer or dessert whisky It is in its original and intact packaging.
