Kopp - Porslin - Rare Water Cup Jiangxi
A small water cup (a vessel used for diluting ink), made of porcelain, with a simple, relatively rare form slightly flaring towards the rim. The exterior is covered in an intense cobalt-blue ground, over which unfolds a dense, symmetrical vegetal decoration in an arabesque (scrollwork) style, painted in white with subtle green accents.
The composition is based on an axial layout – a central stylized flower (resembling a lotus or chrysanthemum) radiates outward in four directions, transforming into curling, rhythmic stems and leaves. The ornament creates an almost “textile-like” surface, characteristic of late Chinese porcelain aesthetics, where ground and decoration merge to produce a sense of density and ornamental continuity.
The decoration belongs to the *fanhua* (“entwined flowers”) type, symbolizing abundance, continuity of life, and harmony of nature, and is inspired by earlier decorative models of the Qing dynasty.
On the base appears a red four-character mark “江西瓷業公司” (Jiangxi Porcelain Company), indicating production during the Republican period.
An exceptional piece of a rare form, produced by the short-lived Jiangxi Porcelain Company (江西瓷業公司).
Condition: excellent.
