Japansk whisky och global destilleringsexpertis presenteras av {name}

Clémence Viault

The bottle in the photo is a rare trade sample of Ginza Regal, a blended Japanese whisky produced by Sanraku-Ocean Co., Ltd.

This is a fascinating collector's item because Sanraku-Ocean owned the legendary, now-defunct Karuizawa distillery. Their whiskies often included distillates from Karuizawa and grain whisky from the Kawasaki distillery.

Key bottle information:
Producer: Sanraku-Ocean Co., Ltd. (this company changed its name to Sanraku in 1985 and later became part of Mercian Corporation, which was eventually acquired by Kirin).

Contents: "Light Whiskey" at 86.6 proof (43.3% ABV)
Characteristics: The label clearly states "NOT FOR SALE" and "ONLY SAMPLE USE," confirming that this is a commercial sample and was not intended for regular retail sale.
Inscription on the Glass: The embossing "FEDERAL LAW FORBIDS SALE OR RE-USE OF THIS BOTTLE" was standard on bottles of liquor destined for the US market from 1935 to 1964. This suggests that this particular sample may have been prepared with an American importer in mind during this period.
Label Art: Depicts the Japanese landscape "Hara" (likely from Hiroshige's famous woodblock print series "53 Stations of the Tōkaidō Trail"), typical of the classic design of Japanese whiskies of that era. Due to their connection with the "spirits" of Japanese distilling (Karuizawa and Kawasaki), such archival bottles, even as samples, are highly sought after at specialist auctions.
Shipping to EU countries only.
