An all-matching Japanese black lacquer suit-of-armour (Yoroi) with firm cords, hem and a 2-piece cuirass (kuro’urushinuri kon’ito hi’suso nimaidô tôsei gusoku) featuring a prominent Manji (Buddhist Swastika) motif. In East Asian culture, the Manji symbol represents good fortune, prosperity, and spiritual protection, and has long been used in Buddhist art and traditional Japanese designs. - 14-plate ‘russet iron’ suji’bachi Kabuto(helmet) Impressive rare sculptured demon mask lion maedate 鬼面獅子前立, Large 4-tiered tehen’no’kanamono (decorative apex fitting), orange silk agemaki (decorative tassel), 3-tiered black lacquer ‘itazane’-plate shikoro (neck guards) and back-bending fukikaeshi (face guards) with brown decorative ‘smoked leather’ borders and fitted with appliques in the shape of a family crest. - ‘Angry man’-facial mask (resseibô) with four-tiered ‘itazane’-plate gorget (yodarekake). - Osode (shoulder guards), tôsei-type, constructed with 6 rows of laced slightly arched 'itazane’-plates. - Kote (bracer), shino-type, metal pieces connected by Japanese mail (kaushi-gusari); the lower arm with 5 oblong pieces, and the upper arm with three rows of alternating diamond-shaped and oblong plates. Placed over dark brown silk with aplum blossom- and wave design. The elbows with a tiered chrysanthemum (kiku)-shaped protective plate. The hand guards (tekko) are decorated with small some raised iron points. - Dô (cuirass) The chest armor is decorated with a prominent Manji (Buddhist Swastika) motif. In East Asian culture, the Manji symbol represents good fortune, prosperity, and spiritual protection, and has long been used in Buddhist art and traditional Japanese designs. - Uwa’obi (waistband) filled with cotton. (Wear) - Haidate (thigh armour) of 4-rows of small lacquered plates with traces of gilding. Placed on en-suite silk with decorative ‘smoked leather’ borders. - Suneate (shin guards), shino-type, vertical long and thin metal plates connected by Japanese mail placed on matching silk and leather, and the tateage (knee guards) with diamond-shaped lacquered metal pieces. Including matching store-box for a suit-of armour (yoroi’bako), with the gold Mae前 on the front side. Condition: the overall condition of the armor is good, but some parts have stains, scratches, rusts, peeling of lacquer, wear off, etc., from aging and using.
