This is an antique Japanese paper lantern. It dates from the late Edo period to the early Meiji period, around the late 1800s. The black lacquer is beautiful and elegant. It is assembled with wooden stakes. When a candle is lit, the light spilling through the round window frame is beautiful and charming. The crescent-shaped window frame is reminiscent of moonlight at night. The drawer was used to store rush grass for the lamp. (It's a smoothie-type drawer without a handle.)
