Horst H. Baumann - Apropos Visionär ("Apropos Visionary", MINT CONDITION) - 2023

BRILLIANT FIRST MONOGRAPH about highly underrated, internationally for a long time forgotten and a few years ago rediscovered German photographer Horst H. Baumann (1934-2019) - in BRANDNEW CONDITION. MY HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION. New, mint, unread; still originally shrink-wrapped in publisher's plastic foil. COLLECTOR'S COPY. Welcome to the ONE-SELLER-AUCTION by Ecki Heuser, 5Uhr30.com (Cologne, Germany) on Catawiki - this time presenting a BEST-OF „GERMAN PHOTOBOOKS“. "During the decade between 1955 and 1965, Düsseldorf-based Horst H. Baumann was one of the most innovative and successful photographers of his generation. Right from the start, the self-taught artist developed a visual language that differed radically from the trends and fashions of the era. Baumann’s early black-and-white photography is distinguished by a genuine interest in social themes on the one hand, and a consistent quest for a unique artistic voice on the other. He discovered compelling subjects even in the most mundane settings through the deliberate use of selective focus, bold cropping, and unconventional perspectives. Children at play, fairgrounds, parades, the Rhineland Carnival, as well as the worlds of mining and industry, became his first self-chosen themes. Baumann participated in exhibitions, won awards, and was a constant presence in the press during those years. At the same time, he began to establish himself as a color photographer. His images from the world of Formula 1, in particular, brought him international renown and—in retrospect—mark him as a pioneer of color photography as an art form. In his later years, Baumann was primarily known to the public as a laser artist. This volume rediscovers this exceptional photographic talent and, for the first time, pays tribute to his contribution to "New Color" photography." (from the publisher) Like always 5Uhr30.com guarantees detailed and accurate descriptions, 100% transport protection, 100% transport insurance and of course combined shipping - worldwide. Steidl, Göttingen. 2023. First edition, first printing. Hardcover (as issued). 230 x 294 mm. 336 pages. 317 photos in black and white and in color. Photos: Horst H. Baumann. Edited by Hans-Michael Koetzle. Text in German. Wonderful book about work and life of Horst H. Baumann - in perfect condition. "Horst H. Baumann was a German architect, designer, light artist, and photographer. He was best known for designing Rheinturm Düsseldorf, in Düsseldorf, Germany. He studied metallurgical engineering from 1954 to 1957 and from 1972 to 1974 at the RWTH Aachen, and from 1994 to 2004 at the Heinrich-Heine University in Düsseldorf. He worked as a photographer and designer from 1957 to 2019, and from 1966 to 2019 as a lighting artist. In 1963–1964, he was a visiting lecturer at the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Ulm. In 1977, he took part in documenta 6 in Kassel, where he installed, with Peter Hertha, the first permanent laser sculpture in the world. Other installations include the Rheinturm in Düsseldorf (1982), the Neonskulptur "Pass the Cross" in Bielefeld-Sennestadt (1988), and the light remodeled at the Rheinturm Düsseldorf 2003. His work has been shown internationally, including in the Museum of Modern Art, in New York City in 1965,[7] and in 1967 and 1969 in the Biennale des Jeunes in Paris." (Wikipedia)
