Bronze Pheasant Sculpture on Marble Base
French or Austrian School, late 19th century, circa 1880–1900
A finely cast bronze sculpture depicting a standing pheasant, executed in the naturalistic animalier manner and mounted upon a polished variegated marble plinth. The bird is rendered with exceptional feather detail and elegant elongated tail plumage, demonstrating the refined chasing and lifelike modelling associated with late 19th century European bronze animal sculpture.
The warm patinated bronze is set upon a richly figured marble base with dramatic natural veining in ochre, cream, grey, and black tones. Sculptures of this type were popular as decorative cabinet pieces and desk ornaments during the late Victorian period, particularly in France and Austria where animalier bronzes flourished.
Unmarked.
Dimensions approximately:
17 × 14 × 11 cm
Weight: approx. 2 kg
Condition:
Good antique condition with age-related surface wear, minor rubbing to the patina, and small natural imperfections to the marble base consistent with age and use.
An elegant late 19th century bronze animal study with strong decorative character and excellent display presence.
