1982 Bodegas Riojanas, Monte Real 'Millenium Edition' - Rioja Reserva - 5 Flaskor (0,75L)

The “Millennium Edition” was an extremely limited collection of some of the finest vintages produced by Bodegas Riojanas during the final quarter of the 20th century. Only the best casks from the most outstanding years were selected and aged separately from the rest of the production. Their ageing period was extended by several years beyond the usual time. Only a few hundred bottles were sold or offered to loyal customers.

This wine was originally scheduled for bottling in February 1986 as a regular Reserva. However, after a tasting selection, the finest casks were set aside and aged for an additional three years. In total, the wine spent seven and a half years in cask before being hand-bottled directly from the barrel in 1990, without filtration.

The bottles then remained in the historic cellar in the village of Cenicero until their release in 2000 as the “Millennium Edition.” Under today’s Rioja Regulatory Board classification, this wine would qualify as a Gran Reserva.
