友禅ビロード(天鵞絨友禅) - Broderi - 64 cm - 60 cm - Yuzen Birodo - Klippt sammet
Beautiful framed painting of the rare and labor-intensive Yuzen-birodo technique from Japan.
Yūzen-birodo or velvet Yuzen is a highly specialized Japanese textile technique developed in 1868 by Kyoto textile merchant Nishimura Sozaemon. It combines the traditional freehand resist-dyeing of Yuzen with cut velvet (birodo), resulting in a three-dimensional, painterly fabric.
The velvet is woven on copper wires. The picture is then painted on the velvet and with a sharp knife the velvet is cut along the wire to reproduce the soft shadows. The copper wire is then withdrawn from the velvet (see photos at the end).
The item is in excellent condition. Photos are part of the description.
Provenance: Private Belgian Collection. Collected over decades, ranging from auction acquisitions to estate clearances.
For shipping the item will be carefully packed, shipped with track&trace, insurance and signature on arrival.
