A Japanese carved bamboo walking cane, early 20th century, decorated with a continuous detailed carved narrative scene incorporating animals, foliage and landscape motifs, characteristic of decorative Japanese export work of the period. The naturally curved crook handle terminates in a knop formed from the bamboo root, enhancing the organic character of the piece. Condition is consistent with age and use, with surface wear, rubbing and scattered age-related imperfections throughout. The handle shows a visible age-related surface crack, and the ferrule is no longer present. An attractive and decorative example with strong visual appeal. Length: 90 cm.
