Japan - Vykort - 1989-1989

Item Description A complete set of 55 art postcards reproducing the celebrated woodblock print series Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō (Tōkaidō Gojūsan-tsugi no Uchi) — the Hōeidō edition — published by MOA Museum of Art and edited by MOA Shoji Co., Ltd., with a publication date of December 20, 1989 (Heisei 1). This iconic series depicts each of the 53 post towns along the historic Tōkaidō highway connecting Edo (present-day Tokyo) and Kyoto, plus the departure point at Nihonbashi and the arrival at Kyoto's Sanjō Ōhashi bridge, totalling 55 compositions. The images capture the atmosphere of Edo-period travel — travellers, ferryboats, mountain passes, coastal vistas, and seasonal weather — rendered in Hiroshige's lyrical, atmospheric style that blends traditional Japanese landscape aesthetics with subtle emotional depth. Each postcard (approx. 10.3 × 14.2 cm) faithfully reproduces the original woodblock prints held in the MOA Museum collection. The reverse side of every card bears the title and attribution printed in both Japanese and English, issued jointly by MOA Museum of Art and Hakone Museum of Art. The set is housed in a traditionally crafted cloth-bound clamshell box (fukuro-toji style) with a woven textile exterior, ivory bone toggle clasp, and a printed paper title label. A separate companion booklet is included, containing an explanatory essay on the Tōkaidō road and a full mileage chart mapping all 53 stations. An exceptional collectible for admirers of Japanese ukiyo-e landscape art, Hiroshige scholarship, and Edo-period cultural history. Size Height: 10.3 cm Width: 14.2 cm Box: Height: 11 cm Width: 15.5 cm Depth: 3 cm Weight 300 g Condition The postcards show minor age-related foxing consistent with over 30 years of storage; the outer clamshell box displays some fading and discolouration due to prolonged storage. Overall the set remains intact and complete with all 55 cards and the accompanying booklet. NOITICE: The lot will be carefully packaged and sent by Japan Post, DHL or FedEx depend on the situation. It takes about 3 weeks to receive normally. Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Sometimes Customes or delivery company in your country contact you for Customs clearance via phone or email. Please make sure that you could answer the phone. If you don't, the parcel will return to me and it cost more double shipping fee for reshipping. I appreciate your cooperation.
