A New Fine Day Signed, Kishin Shinoyama Mitsumurasuikoshoin/2021/Japanese/213*253*15 “A New Fine Day (Signed)” is a collection of works by Kishin Shinoyama, one of the leading photographers of postwar Japan. Although he enjoys overwhelming fame and a distinguished career in commercial photography, he has kept his distance from the photographic paths taken by artists such as Araki and Moriyama, consistently declining to participate in anthologies featuring representative postwar photographers, such as the “Japanese Photographers Series,” the “Sonorama Photo Selection Series,” and the “Contemporary Imaging Series.” However, his artistic sensibility and consummate technical skill are universally acknowledged, even by Nobuyoshi Araki himself. This book is a catalog published to coincide with an exhibition held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography in 2021, compiling Shinoyama’s 60-year career under the title *A New Fine Day*. From his early works of the 1960s and 1970s—which were also included in the 1975 collection *A Sunny Day*—to the bubble economy of the 1980s, the girls of the 1990s, and the transformation of Tokyo since the 2000s, all are presented in Shinoyama’s signature style.
