Odette Camp (1900-1979) - Neige in Montmartre
Odette Camp (1909–1979) was a French painter and draughtswoman, born on 19 March 1909 in Marseille. When she was still young, her family moved to Paris. She studied at the national schools of decorative arts and fine arts in Paris.
In 1928, she married the composer and conductor Henri Tomasi. Alongside her role as his collaborator, she developed her own artistic career. Initially, she painted under the pseudonym Otomasi, producing colourful works inspired by Provence and Corsica. Her work was exhibited at major French salons and acquired by public institutions. She became known for her atmospheric depictions of old Paris and later for her expressive drawings of trees, roots and desolate landscapes. Her work is considered part of the tradition of the École de Paris.
Following her death, several retrospective exhibitions were dedicated to her, including one at the Musée Carnavalet, which holds a significant collection of her drawings.
Odette Camp was a versatile French artist who became best known for her impressive ink drawings of Paris and her poetic, often melancholic visual language
