About Château Chasse-Spleen 1989 ------------------------------------ The 1989 Château Chasse-Spleen is a legendary, fully mature red Bordeaux wine from the Moulis-en-Médoc appellation. It is widely celebrated by wine critics as one of the greatest vintages the estate has ever produced, frequently compared to their iconic 1949 vintage. Blend: Typically composed of roughly 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, and 7% Petit Verdot. Classification: Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel. Style: Savory, classic, and deeply expressive of the Left Bank terroir. Tasting Notes: The wine has entered its tertiary stage of development, offering a deeply nuanced and elegant drinking experience. The palate is wonderfully balanced, the dusty black fruit laced with cedar and charcoal, a hint of soy on the “old school” finish. The 1989 has held up wonderfully 93 Points John Gilman The 1989 Château Chasse-Spleen is an excellent example of the vintage and this most recent bottle at our vertical tasting showed splendidly well. I last drank this two and a half years ago and the wine showed even better this time around! The superb aromatic constellation reveals a ripe and pure blend of cassis, sweet dark berries, gravelly soil tones, cigar ash, a touch of brown spice, a discreet framing of toasty oak and a lovely top note of mint. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and à point today, with a superb core of fruit, fine soil inflection and grip, moderate, melting tannins and impeccable balance on the long, complex and very classy finish.
