Kopp - Porslin - Yongzheng cup

A Rare Yongzheng Period Famille Rose Teacup with Narrative Scene, c. 1723–1735 This finely painted Chinese famille rose teacup dates to the Yongzheng period (1723–1735), the era in which famille rose porcelain first reached artistic maturity and became one of the most celebrated innovations in Qing dynasty ceramics. The cup is decorated with an elegant narrative scene featuring four figures set within a refined courtyard environment. Detailed architectural elements, ornamental screens, scholar’s rocks, trees, and garden plants create a vivid domestic setting, while the figures are rendered with remarkable delicacy and expression. The painting demonstrates many of the characteristics that distinguish early Yongzheng famille rose wares: soft enamel colors, elegant line work, subtle shading, and a harmonious composition. The decoration wraps continuously around the vessel, creating the impression of a complete story unfolding across the surface. Such pieces are highly valued today as study examples illustrating the early development of Chinese famille rose porcelain. The cup originally had a handle, which is now missing. Evidence of an old-period repair is visible, reflecting the object’s long history of use and preservation. Despite these condition issues, the piece remains an excellent reference example for collectors and students of early Qing porcelain. Height: 6.5 cm Period: Yongzheng (1723–1735) Material: Famille Rose Porcelain (Fencai) Decoration: Four figures, courtyard architecture, garden landscape, scholar’s rocks, and floral motifs Condition: Missing original handle; old historic restoration; wear consistent with age. Please refer to photographs for details. A fascinating and educational example of early Qing famille rose porcelain, illustrating the artistic achievements of the Yongzheng kilns and the birth of one of China’s most influential ceramic styles.
