Late Roman Bronze Ring with Glass-Paste Setting – 3rd to 5th Century AD
A Late Roman bronze finger ring formed with a solid circular hoop expanding into broad shoulders and a raised circular bezel. The bezel retains a domed setting, probably made of dark glass paste, secured by four irregular claw-like projections integrated into the surrounding mount. The inset is heavily worn and mineralised, preventing identification of any original engraved motif. This combination of a substantial cast hoop, elevated bezel and retained glass-paste insert is characteristic of personal rings produced during the later Roman period. The surface displays extensive age-related wear, mineral deposits and a pale brown archaeological patina with isolated darker areas.
Material: Bronze and possible glass paste
Dimensions: 2.1 × 1.8 cm
Weight: 2.4 g
Provenance: Acquired in Germany. From a German private collection assembled during the 80’s.
