Unknown - Illuminated Qur'an Frontispiece, C16th - 1575

En stor formaterad upplyst öppningsfrontispice från en spridd Safavid-koran från 1500-talet, som innehåller det första kapitlet ur koranen, Surah al-Fatiha (Öppningen). Den reciteras i varje cykel av de fem dagliga bönerna. Den är skriven i fin naskh-ester på en lapisblå lobformad kartusch, infälld i ett gyllene fält med tät polykrom blomster-scroll och spetsiga indigofärgade medallioner, avgränsad av ett svart och guld intrikat band. Ett elegant exempel på Safavid hovillumination, dess rika guld- och lapis-palett samt förfinad handskrift som vittnar om ett prestigefullt uppdrag. Det är vattenskadat längst upp till vänster, vilket har avlägsnat den dekorativa konsten, men utöver det utgör det en slående bevarande som väcker äkta konnässörsintresse.
