This Rosta 15 Jewels Antimagnetic is a particularly evocative example of the traditional Swiss mechanical wristwatch produced during the post-war period of the 1950s.
At the time, Switzerland's watch industry consisted not only of the major manufactures familiar today but also of numerous smaller marques that produced mechanical watches using the extensive network of specialized Swiss movement and component manufacturers.
Many of these smaller brands have subsequently disappeared, making surviving examples interesting witnesses to a much broader chapter of Swiss horological history.
The design of this Rosta is quintessentially mid-century.
Its small-seconds display at 6 o’clock follows a configuration inherited from earlier wristwatches and pocket watches, before central sweep seconds became increasingly dominant during the 1950s and 1960s.
The elegantly shaped Arabic numerals, dauphine-style hands and warm champagne dial further reinforce its period character.
