Museumsklassat stort hadrosauridfossilägg Dendroolithus sp - Fossiliserat ägg

Scientific name: Hadrosaurid Dinosaur (duck-billed dinosaur). Fossilized Egg. form Dendroolithus sp Age: Upper Cretaceous, Campanian stage, (~75 Million Years) Size: 8,5 x 8 x 6cm - Matrix: 18 cm x 10cm REF.: #J607 DESCRIPTION: This fossilized egg, Dendroolithus sp., is from a Hadrosaurid dinosaur. Hadrosaurids (meaning "bulky lizards") were a family of duck-billed, herbivorous dinosaurs that laid their eggs in nests with a dozen or more eggs. While hatching and scavenging would normally destroy most eggs, occasional eggs were fossilized as seen here. Dinosaur eggs such as this with essentially complete, almost intact shell are highly desirable. This exceptional egg has been cleaned with air micro-abrasion to fully reveal the grey colored shell that is nearly 100% complete. Dendroolithus sp. is an oogenus (a classification name used for fossilized eggs when the exact parent species is unknown) of dinosaur eggs. These Late Cretaceous fossils measure up to 162 mm long and 130 mm wide, and scientists believe they were laid by ornithopods like hadrosaurs, sauropods, or therizinosaurs. Key Facts About Dendroolithus Age: Late Cretaceous period (approx. 100 to 72 million years ago). Location: Primarily discovered in China and Mongolia. Appearance: Slightly oval, hard mineralized shells with a spherulitic microscopic texture. Clutches: Found in nests or large groups, sometimes containing dozens of eggs. Observations abour our specimen: It is completely natural, unrestored and unrepaired. A large percentage of its surface remains intact. A true investment-grade marvel. A very interesting feature of this specimen is that it has the remains of a mineralized geode next to it. These eggs sometimes remained hollow, and geodes formed inside them during the fossilization process. Therefore, it is very likely that this egg was not alone, but rather part of a nest, and what we see next to it are the mineralized remains of another egg in the form of a partial geode. All of our fossils come with a Certificate of Authenticity. Every week, the issued Certificates of Authenticity are updated in our database verification system on our website. If you find that your certificate has not yet been updated, please contact us and we will update it immediately. Display box NOT included.
