The Malacca Keping AH1247 (1831) known as the "Rooster" coin, is a historical copper coin from the Malay Peninsula. It was part of the merchant token system used in the early 19th century. Obverse : Features a spurred cockerel facing right, with an Arabic inscription at the top. The border is decorated with beads. Reverse : Displays an Arabic inscription in the center, with the denomination at the top and the date (AH1247) at the bottom. Made of copper, weighing approximately 1.85 grams, with a diameter of 21.5 mm. These coins were not official currency but were issued by British merchants in Singapore to address a shortage of base coinage. They later spread across the Malay Archipelago.
