This is a highly textured, hand-modeled Yixing Zisha (purple clay) studio planter designed in the form of a rustic, weathered tree trunk. The exterior showcases meticulous artisan craftsmanship, featuring realistically modeled tree bark textures and prominent concentric wood grain rings at the branch stumps. Resting dynamically at the base of the trunk are two sculpted birds (resembling quails or small sparrows), a classic motif in traditional Chinese decorative arts.
The piece features a beautiful aesthetic contrast: the entire exterior remains unglazed to appreciate the natural, earthy, and porous qualities of the native Yixing purple clay, while the deep interior cavity is finished with a vibrant, glossy turquoise glaze.
The underside of the vessel bears a crisp, square impressed artist seal mark written in traditional Chinese Seal Script (Zhuan_shu). The mark reads vertically from right to left as 劉邾華 (Liu Zhuhua).
