Anonymous - Damodarji or Dauji II, Nathdwara or Kotah, Rajasthan, 1st half 19th century
Painting depicting Dauji II, also known as Damodarji, a tilakavat or chief priest of the Shrinathji cult at the Nathdwara temple and other sites within the Pushti Marg, a Vaishnava tradition of Hinduism.
Dauji II is shown seated in prayer on a carpet leaning on a bolster. His right hand holds paan and his head is surrounded by a green nimbus.
He is adorned with a great deal of elaborate jewelry, which is enhanced by incrustations in the painting, underlining the great wealth of the religious center. He wears rings, bracelets, armlets and luxurious necklaces. His ear ornament is a wonderful echo of the overall roundness of the forms. His dhoti fans out in a elaborate fashion.
