Item Description This is a striking contemporary ceramic flower vase by acclaimed Japanese sculptor Sotaro Saegusa (三枝惣太郎, 1911–2006). This piece is a fusion of sculpture and pottery, reflecting the artist’s deep understanding of spatial form and modernist aesthetics. The vase features a dynamic, asymmetrical design with an angled oval silhouette, textured black and grey glaze, and two circular sculptural impressions on the front surface. The base is intricately striped and glazed, further enhancing the object's visual interest from all angles. Though designed as a flower vessel, this piece stands alone as an art object suitable for modern interior décor. It comes with an original plaque indicating the artist's name: "彫刻家 三枝惣太郎 作" (Sculptor Sotaro Saegusa - Work). From 1970, he served as associate professor and then professor at Nagoya University of Arts. In the 1980s, he relocated to Ichinomiya City and contributed greatly to local cultural development, including serving as a judge for municipal art exhibitions. Though sculpture was his primary discipline, Saegusa was also an accomplished painter. His works demonstrate a powerful sense of form, rooted in his sculptural background.
