MATCHING ORIGINAL BOXES – EXCEPTIONAL PRESERVATION – NORWAY

An exceptionally preserved original Tandberg audio system consisting of a Tandberg Sølvsuper 10 receiver in palisander and a Tandberg 1600X reel-to-reel tape recorder.

While individual Tandberg components appear on the market from time to time, complete matched systems surviving together with their original factory boxes are increasingly rare. Sets preserved at this level are exceptionally uncommon.

The original shipping labels on both boxes indicate delivery from the same dealer to the same customer, suggesting that the receiver and tape recorder have remained together since new.

The system was recently inspected and tested by an experienced Tandberg specialist who estimates that several thousand Tandberg units have passed through his workshop over the years. His immediate assessment was that this was among the most remarkably preserved Tandberg sets he had encountered.

The specialist’s opinion was that the equipment appears either unused or only very lightly used before being carefully stored for decades.

Collectors of vintage Scandinavian audio equipment will understand how unusual this level of preservation is. Most surviving examples show significant wear, fading, repairs, replacement parts, oxidation or heavy operational use. This set displays virtually none of the characteristics normally associated with more than half a century of age.

The original boxes, matching shipping labels and remarkable cosmetic condition transform this lot from a collection of components into a preserved piece of Norwegian audio history.
