A. Wellner & Söhne - Tafelaufsatz - 4 mythologischer Schwan - Alpaca Silver-beschichtet - Neoklassischer deutscher Luxus

A monumental collector's piece, crafted by the prestigious Wellner company during its golden age. This splendid centerpiece stands out for its imposing size and historical elegance. It is the perfect addition to elevate any dining table or sideboard, bringing a touch of luxury and distinction from pre-World War I Germany. -Maker: Wellner. (Although part of the elephant's head is missing, with its trunk pointing downwards, due to a manufacturing error, or perhaps also due to age and use.) The hallmark of the standing elephant, the oldest and most distinctive mark of A. Wellner & Söhne, is clearly visible. -Origin: Germany (Sächsische Metallwarenfabrik August Wellner Söhne, Aue in Sachsen-Saxon metal goods factory August Wellner Sons, Aue in Saxony). -Period: c. 1892-1913 (Wellner's peak production and prestige period, based on the use of this hallmark). -Epoch: Eclectic -Style: Eclectic/Neoclassical with Art Nouveau influence. It combines the classic Neoclassical bowl shape with the ornamentation of swans and scrolls, characteristic of the transitional styles of the time. -Material: Silver-plated alpaca (The material hallmark is present on the right side of the elephant, although illegible due to a manufacturing error; it appears as two marks, one on top of the other. I am certain it is silver-plated alpaca, not solid silver.) -Technique: Repoussé, Casting (for the handles and swans), and Electroplating. -Aesthetics: The design is highly ornamental: *The bowl features a magnificent fluted or "scalloped" shape and is supported by four majestic swans with outstretched wings, adding a touch of fantasy and great distinction—a key design element of the period. *The circular foot is decorated with floral reliefs. The side handles are elegantly curved volutes, profusely ornamented with vegetal and acanthus motifs. -Condition: Excellent condition for a piece of its age. It exhibits natural patina and good overall luster. -Mark/Stamp: Yes, the maker's mark is present, although partially legible, confirming its authorship. -Measurements: Total Height: 22 cm; Handle Height: 11 cm; Bowl Diameter (mouth): 26.5 cm; Total Width (handle to handle): 36.5 cm; Base Diameter: 14.5 cm (more measurements in the photos). An investment piece with great visual impact. A jewel of German decorative art from the Eclectic era! Registred shipping with tracking number and/or insurance
