The sturdy and functional construction, with clean and restrained lines, clearly reflects the Stickley / Arts & Crafts style, a movement that emphasized craftsmanship, honest materials and simple forms over excessive ornamentation. The high, slightly curved backrest is finished with a carved wooden top rail with subtle decorative details, consistent with the sober Arts & Crafts aesthetic. The seat and backrest are made of original hand-woven Vienna straw cane. The cane shows some defects, small breaks and losses, visible in the photographs, consistent with the age and use of the chair and not affecting its overall stability. Shaped armrests provide comfortable support, while the turned front legs and cross stretchers ensure strength and durability. The wide, well-balanced rocking base with elegantly curved runners allows for a smooth and stable rocking motion.
