Lackierter Holz-Faltschirm (屏風) Kiefern und Falken – Gold Maki-e Dekoration Vier-Panel - Holz - Japan - Shōwa Zeit (1926-1989)

Lacquered Wooden Folding Screen (屏風) Pine Trees and Hawks – Gold Maki-e Decoration Four-Panel Screen ◎ This item will be shipped from Japan. This wooden folding screen is fully lacquered and beautifully decorated with auspicious pine trees and hawks, rendered using the traditional maki-e (gold lacquer) technique. It is a decorative craft item originally created for Tango no Sekku (Boys’ Day in May), combining traditional craftsmanship with modern production techniques. As each piece is handmade, subtle variations naturally occur, making every screen truly one of a kind, with no two exactly alike. In Japan, pine trees and hawks have long been regarded as symbols of good fortune, carrying the following meanings: Hawk: A symbol of strength, victory, sharp insight, and success. Historically, hawks were revered by the samurai class and often associated with nobility and ambition. Pine Tree: A symbol of longevity, steadfastness, and perseverance. As an evergreen that remains green even through harsh winters, the pine represents resilience and eternal prosperity. This screen can be beautifully displayed as a backdrop for ikebana flower arrangements or boldly mounted on a wall as a striking interior accent. The second image shows an example of how it may look displayed in a living room; furniture and other items shown are not included. 【Size】 Height: approx. 70 cm Width: approx. 150 cm (when all four panels are fully extended) Depth: approx. 1.5 cm Weight: approx. 5.7 kg 【Important Information Before Bidding】 This item will be shipped from Japan. The item price and shipping cost do not include import duties, VAT, or Catawiki fees. International buyers are kindly asked to check their local import regulations or refer to Catawiki’s “Customs & Fees” help page below before bidding: https://www.catawiki.com/en/help/buyer-custom-fees/do-i-have-to-pay-import-tax-to-catawiki 【Condition Notes】 The lacquered surface remains in remarkably beautiful condition. However, as this is a vintage item, there are minor signs of age and light wear. Please review the photos carefully and bid with this understanding. 【Shipping】 The item will be carefully packed and shipped from Japan with a tracking number for safe and secure delivery. Shipping costs vary by destination (for example, shipping to France, Italy, or Spain is approximately €103). Please check the shipping cost to your country before placing a bid.
