Second edition of this collection of table-talk, anecdotes, and scholarly observations drawn from the private conversations of two prominent 17th-century French intellectuals: Gabriel Naudé and Guy Patin. Comes with 2 frontispiece engravings of Naudé and Patin, an engraved title vignette, and several engraved headpieces and initials. Some rubbing, bumping, wear, and soiling to the boards and spine. The vellum of the top of the spine is damaged, and a part of the top spine is missing (see photos). Ex Bibliotheca sticker on the front pastedown endpaper. Penci markings on the back free endpaper. Handwritten text on the first 5 empty pages, and pen markings on the two frontispieces. The first flyleaf is creased. Handwritten notes on the verso of the title page. The back free endpaper is torn off at the lower outer corner (see photo). Browning and spotting throughout. The text is clear, and the binding is solid.
